The Freiburg Minster (or Minster of Our Lady ) is the Roman Catholic parish church of Freiburg im Breisgau , begun in the Romanesque style and mostly completed in the Gothic and Late Gothic styles . It was built from about 1200 to 1513. Since Freiburg became a bishop 's see ( Archdiocese of Freiburg ) in 1827 , the church is today formally a cathedral , but is traditionally referred to as " Munster " rather than " Cathedral ". The Münster parish belongs to the pastoral care unit Freiburg Mitte in the deanery of Freiburg.

In 1869, the art historian Jacob Burckhardt said in a series of lectures about the 116 meter high tower compared to Basel and Strasbourg : And Freiburg will probably remain the most beautiful tower on earth . This probably led to the frequently heard but not quite literal quote from the most beautiful tower in Christianity . Art historians from all over the world praise the Freiburg Minster of Our Ladywith the prominent west tower as an architectural masterpiece of the Gothic period. The cathedral has a total length of 125.83 m. The interior height of the central nave is 25.70 m, the crossing dome is 30.36 m. The total volume of the building is 80,300 m³.

In the beginning of 2017 we where asked if we can do the complicated light installation at the second biggest Church in Germany. The current LED solution was not matching the expectation of the client and faced some defect after a short time. After some test illuminations the customer placed the order to us for the whole replacement. Only in 6 weeks planning and manufacturing of the various luminaries we finished the project by end of April. The result of our works was really outstanding in terms of special light effects, illumination level and power consumption. With only 1.300 W the whole lighting scene of the church was realized in a way nobody expected. At the official light presentation the over all satisfaction was one more time a very nice oner for our works.

Outdoor or indoor illumination of churches are very complicated due to the architectural structure. Therefore the light source selection, right position is very important.
